Giannoulis Halepas (1851-1938) – A bronze Greek sculpture, “Angel”

Biography of the artist:

Giannoulis Halepas was born in 1851 in Pyrgos, Tinos and was the most distinguished sculptor of modern Greece.

Halepas Giannoulis at the School of Arts (later the School of Fine Arts) with Leonidas Drossis as his teacher.

In 1873 he left for Munich to continue his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich under the tutelage of Max von Widman.

In 1876 he returned to Athens, and opened his own workshop. He has presented his works twice: at the Academy of Athens in 1925, and at the Art Asylum.

Many sculptures by Giannoulis Halepas are in private and public collections in Greece and abroad.

Halepas Giannoulis died in Athens in 1938. Many sculptures by Giannoulis Halepas are in public and private collections in Greece and abroad.
