Biography:

George Thomas Georgiadis (1933-2010) was a Greek painter. He was born in 1933 in Heraklion, Crete. He was the nephew of the late mayor of Heraklion, Mina Georgiadis. He studied at the National School of Fine Arts in Lyon (1952 – 1956) and at the National Higher School of Fine Arts in Paris (1963 – 1966). He was also a graduate of the Hamburg Academy of Music.

George Thomas Georgiadis participated in many group and solo exhibitions in Greece and abroad. He was a member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece, of the Cultural Committee of the Municipality of Heraklion and an honorary member of the Network of Visual Artists of Heraklion. He was involved in scenography and wrote plays.

George Thomas Georgiadis illustrated seven books by Elli Alexiou, two by Antonis Sanoudakis and three by Tonia Samara. His works are in the National Gallery-Museum of Alexandros Soutzos, in the Ministry of Culture, in the Greek Parliament, in the Museum of Ellis Alexiou, in the Collection of Alexandros Iolas, in the Gallery of the Municipality of Heraklion and in the City Hall of Heraklion. Also in the private collections of Eleni Karaindrou, Konstantinos Gratsos, Spyros Samoilis, Manos Chalkiadakis and others…

Giannis Tsarouchis highly appreciated his work and Alexandros Iolas wanted to promote him more in the Athenian artistic establishment. Wanting to avoid the secular life in which Iolas lived, he chose to return to his particular homeland, Heraklion, where he continued his creation.

From 1995 he taught painting in his workshop in Agia Irini, in Spilia. The Vikelaia Municipal Library of Heraklion published books with his works in 1994 and 2007.

He passed away in 2010. The day before his death, the UNESCO Cultural Association ‘Knossos’ honored him for his cultural contribution, an event in which he was present.

George Thomas Georgiadis (1933-2010) – Painting “Soldier” – A very beautiful painting.
