Biography:

Louis Jean Pasteur, found in the oldest Greek literature and in the Hellenized form Ludovikos Pasteur (1822-1895), was a French chemist who became famous for his discoveries in Microbiology, so much so that he was called the “Father of Microbiology” and Immunology. His experiments confirmed the theory that many diseases are caused by germs, while he created the first rabies vaccine (anti-rabies serum). He is also known for the way he invented to prevent milk and wine from going sour, as this process is named after him and is called pasteurization. His discoveries in the field of Chemistry are also numerous, with the most important being the discovery of the asymmetry of crystals.

The name Lalique evokes the brilliance of jewellery, the wonder of transparency and the brilliance of crystal. Before it became a trademark, it was the name of one man, an artist of genius, René-Jules Lalique and his heirs who shared his creative flame. René Lalique was born in Aÿ-en-Champagne in the Marne region of France. A few years later, the Lalique family moved to Paris, but continued to spend holidays at Aÿ. René Lalique remained deeply connected to his birthplace throughout his life.

After his father’s death, René Lalique was apprenticed to the craftsman and jeweler Louis Aucoc. During this time he learned jewelry techniques while attending classes at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. He then left for England where he continued his studies for two more years.

In 1885, after gaining recognition as a freelance designer for some of the great jewelry houses such as Jacta, Cartier and Boucheron, René Lalique took over the workshop of jeweler Jules Destape on Place Gaillon in Paris. René Lalique had now dedicated himself to glassmaking for several years. His search for a suitable location for the production of glassware and a skilled workforce led him to Alsace. He founded the Verrerie d’Alsace glassworks in Wingen-sur-Moder in Alsace, in the heart of a region with a strong and historic glassmaking tradition. This is now the only Lalique factory in the world.

The death of René Lalique. His son Mark took over as head of the business. It was to bring Lalique into the crystal age.

Lalique glass sculpture of “Louis Pasteur” – It is a very beautiful and collectible sculpture.
