Biography:

Marios Loverdos (1926-2016) was a leading Greek sculptor, the most awarded in Greece and abroad with important and timeless work. His work is divided into two sections: the depiction of real people, historical and others, with elements of realism and the creation of extinct forms, all-embossed and embossed, with elements of Impressionism. He was active in the field of sculpture from 1960 to 1990.

The famous sculptor Marios Loverdos, son of the famous Kefalonian banker Ioannis Loverdos, founder of the People’s Bank of Greece, and poet-chronographer-journalist Maria Loverdou-Kazazi, was born in Athens in 1926 and passed away at the age of 90 in 2016. . During his childhood and adolescence, both he and Socrates’s older brother, as the offspring of a cosmopolitan family, had the good fortune to travel the world but also to live for a long time in Alexandria and Cairo, Egypt, with result to accept from an early age multicultural influences and perceptions.

From a very young age he was involved in sports, recording impressive performances in shooting and boxing. During the German occupation he joined the resistance struggle together with his brother, showing rich activity, while later he served in the Greek Army as a reserve officer.

In 1948 he married the sister of the leading Greek actor Alekos Alexandrakis Maria (Mania) Alexandrakis (1927-2008), with whom they had two children, Giannis (1951-2018) and Vassias (1956-2007).
