Biography:

He was born in Kavala in 1927. He took his first painting and drawing lessons in Thessaloniki, from the painter Polykleitos Regos, with whom he collaborated on many murals.

He continued his studies in Paris at the École Nationale Supérieure N. des Beaux Arts (laboratory M. Brianchon), the École Supérieure des Arts Decoratifs (laboratory Felix Labisse) and the mosaic workshop of Gino Severini’s Ecole d’Art Italien. Returning to Greece, he taught in the period 1960-1971 at the Vakalos School. His first solo exhibition was presented in 1959 in Thessaloniki (Diagonios).

His work includes paintings, drawings and engravings, with a wide range of subjects: landscapes, still lifes, portraits, etc. However, his most characteristic works depict female figures and nudes in lazy poses, which radiate a sense of bliss and well-being.

The naked female bodies are described with austere and clean lines, bathed in light, often without features on the faces, so as to highlight their archetypal dimension. The figures are distinguished by their gentleness and subtle eroticism, while the atmosphere is poetic, almost lyrical, with some traces of melancholy.

After 1975 he trained in Tibetan art and turned to Buddhism. He tries to apply these teachings to his personal fulfillment and work. His interest in the healing properties of colors leads him to a different attitude towards painting, without, however, significantly altering his thematic and stylistic choices.

He presented his work in more than twenty individual exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions, in Greece and abroad. His works are in public and private collections in Greece and abroad.

Pavlos Moschidis (1927-2004) – Painting “Female Form” – An exceptional and collectible painting.
