Biography:

Vikentios Bokatsiambis (Corfu River, 1856 – Athens, 1933) was a Greek painter of French origin. Together with Angelos Giallinas, he is one of the promoters of watercolor painting in Greece.

He was born on the Corfu River and was the offspring of noble French descent. He studied painting in Marseilles, in Florence and at the Academy of Saint Luke in Rome, where he remained until 1895, the year in which he returned to Corfu where he founded an art school.

In 1899 he settled in Athens and the following year (1900) he was appointed professor of jewelry, set design and perspective at the “School of Arts” (the later Academy of Fine Arts), succeeding Vikentios Lantsa, who left the position due to health problems . Bokatsiambis taught at the school until 1928, when he left due to age. He died in 1933 in Athens.

Bokatsiambis is considered as one of the most important Greek watercolorists as well as the introducer, together with Angelos Giallinas, of this particular form of art in the Ionian Islands and in the Greek area in general. He also worked with oil paintings as well as pastel.

He mainly engaged in landscape painting, having as sources of inspiration the landscapes of Corfu and Attica, to which he attributed a poetic and idyllic character.

Vikentios Bokatsiambis (1856-1933) – Painting “Seascape” – An exceptional and collectible painting.
